Racial Profiling

There are a lot of people who think that racial profiling unfairly discriminates against certain ethnic groups such as Arab and the Black community.  What is your feelings on that statement?

  1. I do believe that racial profiling unfairly discriminate against ethnic groups. In the case of Arab the community they are associated with terrorism and often experience racial profiling on the basis of their religion, or simply by their names or even the way they dress. This discrimination is probably most frequent in airports where innocent individuals are interrogated based on these factors because of the actions of other people. The black community is also unfairly affected by racial profiling, often their gender, color and sometimes even age. A situation in which a black person experience discrimination would be when police officers focuses on black men when fighting or investigating crime more than people of different ethnicity because of the assumption that black men are likely to be involved in criminal activity. Unfair discrimination because of racial profiling can be a humiliating experience and can affect an individual and a community. A person can lose self confidence and prevent them from achieving their full potential and therefore facilitate the continuation of discrimination. With so many arenas to educate ourselves and learn from individual experiences I will like to believe that we are on our way to over coming unfair discrimination, but I do believe that it starts in the home and what we teach our children.

  2. Just like Shari I do believe that it does discriminate against a certain race group but I also believe it didn't get that way out of nowhere. I do think that sometimes it is just plain racisim but also there is two sides to everything in life so even though it seems inhumane, some people think it works. That it is a sure way to catch criminals and know where a criminal is most likely to be found.

  3. I also agree. I think racial profiling is unfair and should not be practiced especially in public. Arabs are widely subjected to racial profiling becuase of the association with terrorism. But it also has to do with the media. The media portray Arabs as being our enemy and it put fear in others which makes it harder for racial profiling to go away. Also, black people are subjected to racial profiling because of how they look or what neighborhood they come from. Even though not all black people are violent and bad, the media, especially the news stations tend to air over and over the negative side.
