Police Department view point of Racial Profiling

Police Departments will tell you that crimes follow a pattern of race.  They use these patterns to determine potential suspects and strongly support certain types of profiling.   How would you dispute this type of thinking?   Your comments are due on April 22 at 9AM

  1. I think these crimes have nothing to do with race. I think they have alot to do with a person's enviroment. A black man in a poor neightborhood is just as likely to rob someone as a white man in a poor neightborhood. The only difference is that there are alot more poor black men than there are poor white men. So it seems like it would be logical that only black men would rob someone but in reality a person is a product of their enviorment, no matter what background they come from.

  2. While the police department is fighting crime following a pattern of race, they are allowing the same crimes to flourish within other races. They will continue to find people committing crimes only where they focus. Even if people of color are targeted in road stops regarding weapons and drugs, I think by now they know that and can have people of different ethnicity doing their transportation, people who are also very much involved in criminal activity and can easily get past the police. In this instance I believe that they should consider stopping vehicles with persons of different races and their statistics just might change.
